2022 has been a year of tremendous growth and exciting opportunities for our studio, clients, and industry partners. With the holiday season upon us, we reflect on the past year and those who have helped to shape our business – we’re grateful for each and every one of you.
From ground breakings and grand openings, to thought leadership presentations at conferences, this is a look back at the best moments of the year.
Completed Projects & Grand Openings
Meyer worked closely with The Heritage of Green Hills to design this state-of-the-art Health Center which features 70 spacious personal care and memory care suites. The Health Center’s Personal Care Neighborhood features a dining room and outdoor patio with views of the tranquil 78-acre campus. The Memory Care neighborhood includes welcoming spaces and a secured patio that encourages residents to remain active and enjoy the outdoors.
Residents in both personal care and memory suites will enjoy all the benefits of the Heritage of Green Hills’ community-wide Well by Design program. Personalized activities, programming and services in this mind, body and spirit initiative focus on eight dimensions of wellness — social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational, spiritual, environmental and health services — to empower residents to live rich, fulfilling lives.
Luxor: Phoenixville, and West Chester
These communities designed for the Westrum Development Company were carefully crafted to offer high-end amenities and spacious floor plans – providing the comfort, convenience, and value that residents desire. Curated design elements and high-quality finishes in each residence establish these as luxurious and special communities. From interior courtyards, to the Luxor lounge, and the modern elegance of each apartment home, these communities offer a world of vibrant colors, mood elevating acoustics, pleasing textures, and engaging social activities.
The Shenandoah Memory Care Community at The Virginian opened earlier this year as part of a multi-year renovation effort. This long-term care environment utilizes modern technologies designed as difference makers for those living with varying stages of memory loss.
The Meyer team provided interior design and FF+E services, and this project was completed with Focus Healthcare Partners, LCS, Allied Partners, Moseley Architects and Carle Consulting.
Within The Shenandoah Memory Care Community, the Reminiscence and Sensory Lounges won the Gold Award for the 2022 Environments for Aging (EFA) Remodel/Renovation Competition.
Thought Leadership
Meyer Principal and Living Studio Practice Leader, Dan King, along with Erickson Senior Living Vice President of Community Living, Dr. Margaret Kimbell, and Colliers Engineering and Design Geographic Discipline Leader, Jonathan Jolley spoke at LeadingAge PA 2022 to discuss the benefits of spending time outdoors for seniors. This panel explained how to identify and subsequently activate new or underutilized outdoor spaces, and presented the latest outdoor amenity trends.
Principals and Studio Practice Leaders Dan King and Shannon Remaley, along with Director of Development for Capitol Seniors Housing, Dave Ennis, led an education session discussing adaptive reuse for senior living communities at the 2022 Environments for Aging (EFA) Conference and Expo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Interface Seniors Housing Northeast
Dan King and Shannon Remaley joined senior living thought leaders and top professionals for the InterFace Seniors Housing Northeast, the longest running regional seniors housing conference in the Northeast in Philadelphia. Dan King led a roundtable and panel discussion, and Shannon Remaley was a featured panelist on, “Design & Build: Architecture, Design and Construction Trends”.
As part of our focus on the end-user experience, members of the Living Studio gained further understanding of what it can feel like to live with Dementia. Our team attended Dementia Live® training at Arbor Terrace Exton which gave them a high-impact, dementia simulation experience. This gave our designers a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change – all in the service of helping Meyer design better spaces.
SMPS
Director of Client Services Matt Wittemann moderated a stimulating discussion between Meyer Principals Dan King, Shannon Remaley, and Edie Emporio of Capitol Seniors Housing on the challenges and opportunities within senior living adaptive reuse projects.
Renovations
Meyer worked with Erickson Senior Living on this multi-phase repositioning for skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and resident amenity space at Chatsworth, Devonshire’s continuing care neighborhood in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The Chatsworth continuing care repositioning project was driven by creativity and a focus on the human experience. The Meyer team was keen to incorporate natural finishes into a fresh and lively neutral palate with pops of color – inspired by the surrounding community and neighborhoods.
Meyer was selected by ACTS to improve the ACTS Buckingham’s Choice campus in Adamstown, MD with outdoor amenities and dining renovations. Located on 42 scenic acres, ACTS Buckingham’s Choice is an Adamstown, MD retirement community offering panoramic views of the Sugarloaf and Catoctin Mountains. Meyer was engaged by ACTS to plan and design an active outdoor courtyard and fishing pier behind the main clubhouse. Programmatic and amenity items include an outdoor dining area with a kitchen, food prep and seating on a hardscaped patio, turf grassed areas for fitness, yoga, bocce ball and petanque courts, and a pavilion for outdoor movies and performances.
Meyer collaborated with Atria Senior Living to renovate Lynbrook and develop a tremendous senior living community in Lynbrook, NY. The amenities at Atria Park of Lynbrook contribute to a lifestyle of greater well-being, and assisted living and memory care are both available with personalized plans to fit each resident’s needs.

On the Boards
Woodmont Properties, based in Fairfield, NJ is one of New Jersey’s leading developers of residential and commercial real estate. Woodmont has led the movement toward lifestyle-oriented luxury communities for more than 60 years. As part of its diverse portfolio of commercial properties, Woodmont has begun developing independent living, assisted living, and memory care communities throughout the Northeast. Kickstarting Woodmont’s first senior living community in Howell, NJ (Woodmont Grand), Woodmont selected Meyer for architecture, interior design and FF+E procurement. At Woodmont Grand, residents will enjoy all the comforts of home while experiencing secure, supportive services and the social atmosphere they desire. Woodmont Grand exemplifies a sophisticated living community that provides luxurious hospitality for residents, families, and the surrounding community.
For client Alexander Property Holdings, Meyer is working on Oak Tree Apartments – a 228-unit Class A, market-rate rental apartment community located in Haverstraw, New York. The site is comprised of four, three-story apartment buildings and one community clubhouse. The buildings will contain a mix of studio, one and two-bedrooms represented by four unit types.
Fischer Crossings Active Adult
This Capitol Seniors Housing active living community located in Sharpsburg, GA will be a new, 162-unit, 167,000 GSF age-restricted property with a 2-story clubhouse of approximately 10,000 GSF of amenity space. The property will reflect Meyer’s approach to active living by creating a welcoming and unique environment that enriches the lives of all residents.
Cornerstone at Weymouth
Meyer is working with Buildable Sites, LLC and Elksy Development, LLC on the development of the Cornerstone at Weymouth, a 147 unit independent senior living community to be located in Weymouth, Massachusetts. On this project Meyer is responsible for architectural, interior design and FF&E services.
Rockville Place
Meyer has been hired by Presbyterian Senior Living to provide architectural, interior design and FF&E services for this facility in Harrisburg, PA. As part of the Susquehanna Union Green development, Rockville Place will be approximately 265,000 gross square feet and include 179 independent living apartment units.
