Situated just outside of Philadelphia, PA, Atria Lafayette Hill is a modern senior living community thoughtfully designed by Meyer’s Senior Living Interior Design studio for longstanding client, Atria Senior Living. From an architectural style that reflects the neighborhood’s historic charm to all-inclusive amenities, creative dining experiences and thoughtfully curated events, Atria Lafayette Hill offers a variety of senior living options: independent living, assisted living and memory care.
This new community offers spacious studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, most with a kitchenette, hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, solid wood cabinetry, custom shelving, crown molding, walk-in tile shower, and mosaic tile backsplash; options with a patio or balcony are also available. Residents enjoy an array of services and amenities including chauffeured car service, a movie theater, fitness center, salon and spa with manicure and pedicure services, an art studio and multiple on-site dining venues – a restaurant, bistro, and lounge.
Additional amenities include welcoming outdoor spaces such as a courtyard, patio, and walking paths. Atria Lafayette Hill earned LEED Silver certification by the USGBC for its sustainable design, construction, and operation; features include energy-efficient lighting, a high-efficiency HVAC system, ENERGY STAR-certified appliances, and environmentally friendly paint, carpet and wood so future generations can enjoy one of Greater Philadelphia’s most precious natural resources: the Wissahickon Valley Park.
For people living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, Atria Lafayette Hill offers a forward-thinking approach to memory care. Residents benefit from engagement, social connection, and exercise in a secure, thoughtfully designed space with specially trained caregivers.
Allegro Harrington Park is the newest property in the Allegro portfolio and the first in the State of New Jersey. The 232,000-square-foot independent living, assisted living and memory care community offers 177 residential suites set on a spectacular waterfront property along the banks of the Oradell Reservoir with Emerson Woods Preserve and local organic farms nearby. Reflective of Allegro’s brand, Allegro Harrington Park pairs its service-rich program with a luxurious atmosphere focused on residents’ comfort, health, and well-being.
Allegro Harrington Park’s design innovation comes from its unique, senior-focused architectural programming. Allegro means lively in Italian, and it was our goal to design a building that would inspire its residents to find cheer and joy in every moment. The client and design team took every opportunity to bring natural light into the building’s interior as well as provide a variety of well-lit outdoor spaces. Spending time indoors under inadequate lighting can disrupt seniors’ circadian rhythms, which can result in injuries, fatigue, depression, and accelerated mental decline. In general, increased outdoor activity has been shown to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation as well as social engagement. This influenced our decision to bring in biophilic elements such as water features and gardens to create interior environments that promoted wellness and overall well-being. Finishes and furniture were selected to reinforce the bright and cheerful design intention.
The building boasts a central amenity hub, situated along its four-story atrium which is crowned with a custom skylight so all community activities can be conducted in naturally lit spaces. Amenities included within the central hub are a full spa-fitness-beauty salon and gym, a full-service multi-tiered movie theater with snack bar, activity space for games and community events, a library and game room, a pub with an outdoor fireplace lounge, and multiple dining options. These spaces vary from a formal dining room to a bistro with interior and exterior seating options, a private dining room for personal events, and a casual grill with a comfortable outdoor seating arrangement adjacent to the pool. A variety of venues for communal eating were designed to facilitate large formal groups, large informal groups, and small intimate groups.
Adding to the healthful environment is an indoor pool and hot tub. The pool house is decorated with its own custom skylight as well as a nana-wall storefront system that allows the pool house to open onto the adjacent patio space. Also connected to the pool house is a professional-grade greenhouse where residents are encouraged to interact and strengthen their fine and gross motor skills through gardening. Additional garden spaces for strolling, games, and community events are provided to the residents at the inner courtyard, directly off the bistro.
Four separate resident wings radiate out from the central amenity core. These wings include independent living, assisted living, and memory care rooms and services. A radial plan provides quiet living units and creates micro-communities for smaller, more neighborly interactions. Large communities can feel overwhelming to anyone who has recently changed their primary residence, and we’ve found that providing smaller ‘neighborhoods’ for residents allows them to more quickly associate with their immediate neighbors.
Allegro Harrington Park provides an exciting experience for seniors that is designed to cultivate a meaningful life for its residents every day.
